What is a blood sugar?

Blood sugar, also known as blood glucose, refers to the concentration of glucose (a type of sugar) present in the bloodstream. It is an essential energy source for the body's cells and is regulated by hormones such as insulin and glucagon. Monitoring blood sugar levels is crucial for individuals with diabetes to maintain optimal health and manage their condition effectively.

There are primarily two types of blood sugar found in the body
1-  Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS): This refers to the blood sugar level after an overnight fast, typically measured in the morning before breakfast. It provides a baseline measurement of blood sugar and is commonly used in diagnosing diabetes or assessing blood sugar control.

2-   Postprandial Blood Sugar (PPBS): This is the blood sugar level measured after a meal, typically taken 2 hours after eating. It helps evaluate how the body responds to carbohydrates and how effectively insulin is regulating blood sugar levels after food intake.

These two types of blood sugar measurements provide valuable information about an individual's glucose metabolism and overall diabetes management.
